Reducing Near-Road Fine Dust Pollution

A large portion of the particulate matter in the air is caused by dust from soil. Traffic is a major contributor to this because of the air turbulence it causes by, for example, runways, on roads, roadsides.

These areas can be treated relatively easily and effectively with NODUST Infra. The particulate matter in question is bound and the agglomerate remains on the bottom. Fine dust control with NODUST Infra has proven to be an effective and environmentally friendly solution.

Consequences of particulate matter

Particulate matter, also known as PM10 and PM2.5, is expressed in the number of micrograms per m3. It is not only bad for the environment but also for humans. Smog due to particulate matter in the air can cause asthma attacks, breathlessness, and coughing, according to the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM). It also increases the risk of cardiovascular disease. The health damage is greater when the concentration of particulate matter is higher. It is not known exactly how many people die from the consequences. The RIVM estimates the number of deaths in the Netherlands as a result of particulate matter exposure at 7,000 to 12,000 per year. According to Pulmonologists, particulate matter shortens the life of Dutch 13 months.

Recent studies from Harvard University have even shown that there is a significant correlation between the number of Covid-19 related deaths and the amount of particulate matter in the air. An increase of 1 µg PM2.5 per m3 results in 8% more Covid-19 deaths (Harvard, 2020). By reducing particulate matter in the air, NODUST Infra can therefore immediately save lives.

Dosage and application

NODUST Infra is particularly easy to process. Dilute the product in the indicated amount of water and spray it on the to be treated area. The results will immediately be measurable.

On paved toads and verges that are regularly treated for particulate matter reduction, a solution of 0.5% to 1.0% NODUST Infra in water is sufficient/ With this solution, approximately 7,000 m2 can be processed per 1000 liters. The NODUST Infra solution should be applied approximately two to three times a week during dry periods. Interim treatments with only water will reactivate the NODUST Infra on the surface.

Technical Support

Special dosing pumps can be used to automate the dilution operation. After that, the NODUST Infra solution must be applied to the area with nozzles.
